Calif. at Riverside, provides an overview of the state of women in the Inland Empire of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, a fast growing area with 2.3 million women. Women in the region, especially women of color have historically faced significant challenges and barriers, which include the salary gap.   • Vintage Valentine Exhibit

    February 04, 2020 | 9:00am - 1:00pm

    Valentines CardsThese valentines, most of them from 1924, were collected by Theodore (Ted) Irmscher, (1914-2007) whose wife, Vivian (1921-2018) was the long-time office manager for San Bernardino Valley Concert Association, and also worked at the Arrowhead Allied Arts Council. Vivian and Ted were both active in the arts and the city in San Bernardino during their 61 years of residency. The Valentine collection showcases both commercial and hand-made cards, most of which were given to Ted when he was 10 years old. The exhibit runs from Feb. 4 - 16, during the hours the Center is open

  • “Swift Feet/Pies Ligeros” Documentary Screening & Discussion

    February 09, 2020 | 2:00pm - 4:00pm

    Cine MexicanoSwift Feet/Pies Ligeros”, a documentary film about the Tarahumara runners, who live in the rugged canyons of Mexico. The Tarahumara are one of the largest indigenous cultures in North America. For them, running is not only the best way to get from one place to another, it is an important cultural tradition. They regularly compete in races that can last days and stretch more than one hundred miles. During the 1990s, runners Victoriano Churo and Cirildo Chacarito received international attention for their running abilities after they competed in several ultramarathons in the United States. Come and enjoy this free exciting film and discussion with Director Juan Carlos Nunez.

Not only will participants learn photography skills, they will learn the way photographers use those skills to tell a story about who they are and what they value. This series will help participants become more familiar with uses of storytelling, photography and visual arts practice. These workshops will provide participants with opportunities to create and share new narratives of being and place. Lunch will be served. The free series is sponsored by California Humanties, The Garcia Center, Cal State Fullerton’s African American Studies Dept., and Kayjo Creatives, and brought to us by the San Bernardino County Arts Connection.
