  • Silent Movie Feat. Laurel and Hardy

    Refreshments During the FilmSilent Movie featuring Laurel and Hardy, comedians whom your great-grandparents thought were the “real gas.” We will serve popcorn and perhaps other goodies---this first event of a monthly series is free. We will not have a December screening. The Silent Film Series will resume in January. Plan to attend and see Laurel & Hardy and master film-maker Buster Keaton in their slapstick comedies. Specific dates to be announced later.

    PoetrIE LogoJo Scott-Coe will be leading the writing workshop at 6:00, and she and Juanita Mantz will be featured readers for reading and conversation from 7:00-9:00. Other poets/ writers are also encouraged to read. A grant from California Humanities Fdn. Supports this event. Participants are encouraged to bring items for Option House, a shelter for victims of domestic abuse.

  • Las Posadas Event

    December 23, 2018 | 5:00pm - 7:00pm

    Star of BethlehemThis will be the third year that Las Posadas has been celebrated at the Garcia Center, in collaboration with the Barrios family and 2nd Ward Councilperson, Sandra Ibarra. A Christmas tradition in Latin-American countries, it is a re-enaction of the search for a place for the Baby Jesus to be born. Participants walk singing the traditional songs and are welcomed to the “inn.” There, we have refreshments of Mexican Chocolate and “goodies.” This is a family celebration, and one that all cultures can enjoy.
