Marilou Santiago has traveled to many countries, and has painted what she saw. This collection of her work “Impressions from East to West” was donated to the Garcia Center for the Arts by Marilou and her husband. She says, “I consider art an international language. No matter what language you speak, or what country you come from, you’re able to communicate with the rest of the world.”

Samuel Oxymoron is a hip-hop artist in the Inland Empire, whose work spans over 20 years, a prolific artist with many projects under his belt. In 2019, he pushed himself to do a series titled Mental Floss Pencil Box, where he would write a new song every month, as well as create visuals that would complement each track; the last video, Episode 12, was even filmed at The Garcia Center for the Arts. Sam Ox has also hosted several open mics for the San Bernardino community under the name Break Bread Mic Sesh. Most recently, Samuel Oxymoron released his new album Residue Rejuvie, his most personal work yet. We sat down with Sam to learn more about all of his projects, and about him personally.

The IEMHOF hopes to preserve the musical history of the IE by building an archive of recordings, photographs, and memorabilia that begins with the 1940’s, a collection which would be accessible by any musician and researcher.

Call 909-888-6400. // Chris Frausto is a mixed media artist, whose work is currently on display at The Garcia Center’s gallery space. Chris Frausto uses found objects and other oddities found at thrits, estate and yard sales, incorporating them into her art. Frausto finds fun in presenting objects in another form, beyond their original intended use. Frausto’s work is also grounded in her relationship with books and sees her art being a reflection of our times: the demise of the book and the beauty of turning the pages.
